主な研究と活動
動物のコミュニケーションに関心があります。動物達は、コミュニケーションのために特別に進化したディスプレイと呼ばれる行動を行いますが、その機能と進化、さらには「遊び」や「あいさつ」についても研究しています。対象とする動物は脊椎動物なら何でも(サンゴ礁魚類、ニホンザル、トカゲ、カエル等々)扱いますが、特にイヌの行動研究には力を注いでいます。基礎研究として、イヌの気質と遺伝子の関係についても研究しています。教育面では、動物行動学をしっかり身につけたドッグトレーナーを育てることを大きな目標として、イヌのしつけ・トレーニングをイヌとヒトのコミュニケーションの観点から捉え直そうとしています。
