主な研究と活動
社会では様々な動物がわたしたちの生活を豊かにしてくれています。その一例がセラピー・アニマルや補助犬です。わたしはこのような動物と関わる障がい者、子ども、高齢者、入院患者の笑顔を数多く見てきました。一方で普及の遅れによりアニマル・セラピーや補助犬を希望しながらも恩恵にあずかることができない人々にも出会いました。これは供給不足だけではなく、日本人の動物に対する考え、文化、環境などが複雑に絡み合い普及の壁となっているためです。そして、何よりもその「壁」を取り払えるような、動物からの効果を客観的に評価し、汎用性のあるものとする科学的な証拠が不足しています。この研究室では、動物との相利共生を基本とし、多くの人が動物から最大限の効果を得られる社会を目指して『動物の効果はどうしてもたらされるのか』『どのような介入が最大限の効果を引き出せるのか』という、大きな疑問を一つ一つ明らかにしていきたいと考えています。
