Application Eligibility

Those who meet all of the following criteria〈1〉 to 〈5〉

  • 〈1〉Those who possess foreign nationality
  • 〈2〉Those who have the residency status of "Student" (student visa) under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
    Alternatively, those who currently have a residency status other than "Student" which allows them stay in Japan for a medium to long term,
    have passed the university selection test, completed the admission procedure, and are able to obtain the residency status "Student" as a student of TUS by March 31st by applying for permission to change their residency status.
  • (Note) The following applicants are not allowed to apply for the foreign student selection test.

    • *Those who have graduated from a Japanese high school or other Japanese secondary education institution (including those who are expected to graduate).
    • *Those who have one of the following residency statuses: "Permanent resident", "Permanent resident's spouse, etc.", "Japanese spouse, etc.", "Long Term Resident" and "Special Permanent Residents" stipulated in the Special Law on Immigration Control, such as those who formerly possessed Japanese nationality but have renounced it based on the Peace Treaty with Japan.
  • 〈3〉Those who reside in Japan
  • 〈4〉Those who meet one of the following educational background requirements
    • ① Have completed 12 years of school education (including those who have completed 11 years or more of the process separately designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in a foreign country (Including those who are expected to complete this education by March 31, 2023).
      Those who have been enrolled for a total of 3 years or less in a Japanese elementary school, junior high school and high school or secondary school are also eligible, per the School Education Law of Japan. Those who have been enrolled in for more than 3 years in these institutions are not eligible.
    • ② Have completed their education in a system that is less than 12 years in length, and have completed study at Japanese pre-university preparatory institutions for students planning to study in Japan, which are designated by the MEXT. (Including those who are expected to complete this coursework by March 31, 2023.)
    • ③ Have passed an official examination that shows an academic background equivalent or superior to that obtained from a 12-year standard education curriculum and be at least 18 years of age by March 31, 2023.
    • ④ Received an International Baccalaureate Diploma, Abitur, Baccalaureate Diploma, or GCE A Level results.
    • ⑤ Completed a 12-year standard education curriculum accredited by an international evaluation group (WASC, CIS, ACSI).
      (Including those who are expected to complete such curriculum by March 31, 2023.)
  • 〈5〉Those who have taken the "Subjects specified by TUS *" in the 2022 (Reiwa 4) Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) conducted by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).

Admittance Criteria

The selection process favors those who understand the features and admission policy of the faculty/department that they are applying for, have clear goals in line with that educational policy, and have a strong desire to study creatively and actively.
We determine admittance based on the following criteria: the applicant's grades in subjects designated by TUS in the EJU conducted by JASSO, interview with the applicant, and document screening conducted by TUS.

About Concurrent Applications

You are allowed to apply to TUS at the same time you are submitting applications to other universities.
Also, you are allowed to apply to the same course using another type of exam results.
(Except for Selection Exam for Working Professionals社会人特別選抜試験).

Application Fee Payment Period / Payment Method

  • ・ The payment period lasts from the date of registration of the online application to 11:59p.m. on the day after next. However, on the day of the application deadline, it is valid until 12:00p.m. (noon).
  • ・ When registering a web application, you can select from among the following payment methods: "Credit card", "Payment at convenience store", and "ATM (pay-easy)". Please pay the entrance examination fee according to the method you have chosen.

    ※Applications will not be processed until the application fee is paid. Be sure to complete the payment by the deadline for mailing required documents.
    Please note that the web application registration will become invalid after the deposit deadline.

Statement of Purpose
Please download and print the following forms as prescribed by TUS, and complete them in Japanese
(the applicant must complete these documents in Japanese by themselves without outside assistance).
Proof of Financial Resources
Certificate of Graduation/Expected Graduation from High School ※ Please submit the original graduation certificate (or certificate confirming expected graduation) issued by the high school.
High School Academic Transcript Please submit the original official transcript issued by the high school;
this must include records of the applicant's grades and evaluation criteria for the entire period of enrollment.
Copy of The Certificate of Residence Please submit the original copy of the certificate of residence (address, status of residence, period of stay, etc.) issued within 3 months by the city, ward, town or village of your place of residence; please note that this is not the same as a residence card.
Copy of Passport Please submit a copy of the page with your name, date of birth, face photo and passport number.
Copy of EJU Admission Ticket Please submit a copy of your EJU admission ticket.
Certificate of Academic Background※ If you are a student at a university or vocational school, please submit the "original certificate of enrollment".
If you are a graduate, please submit the "original certificate of graduation".
If you have withdrawn from the institution in question early, please submit the "original certificate of enrollment"
and the "original official transcript".

* For documents written in a foreign language, be sure to attach a Japanese translation (original) issued by a public institution or a private translation company. If you submit documents written in a foreign language without an accompanying Japanese translation, your application will not be accepted.

Submission Method for Required Documents

Submission by mail (must be submitted no later than the deadline)
After completing the online application registration and payment of the entrance examination fee, download the "address label" from the "My Page" section of the web application site, print it (A4 size) and attach it to an envelope, enclose the necessary documents in the envelope, and send it by registered mail.

The required documents must arrive at TUS by the application deadline.
Please note that if the required documents do not arrive at TUS by the application deadline, they will not be accepted.

* If the documents cannot arrive by the deadline due to postal conditions, weather, disasters, etc., please be sure to contact the admissions section of the Admissions and PR division.

* As a general rule, we ask applicants to submit their documents by mail as mentioned above. Only in the case that the deadline is not met by mail, submission of documents by visiting the Senju Campus is permitted. We will not accept applications other than by the following submission location and reception hours.

  • Weekdays 9:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., Saturdays 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m.
  • * Only on December 28 (Tuesday) from 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m.
  • * The office is closed on Sundays, public holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3).

Examination Slip

  • 1. The examination slip will be available for download and printing from the "My Page" section of the web application site once all required documents have been submitted and accepted at the university. You can print the examination slip up until the date of the announcement of the result of the exam you are taking.
  • 2. Be sure to check the contents of the printed examination slip. If it is different from your registered information, please contact the admission office of Admissions and PR division immediately.
  • 3. If the examination slip cannot be downloaded or printed from the "My Page" section of the web application site up to 3 days before the test date (within 10 days from the application deadline for applicants for who select the Common Test for University Admissions), please contact us immediately.
  • 4. Please be sure to bring a printed copy (A4 size) of the examination slip on the test day.
